Tips to Clean Your Backsplash

Whether its grease in the cooking area or toothpaste spills in the bathroom, it can sometimes be difficult to try to keep your tiled backsplash clean and shiny. The fact is that many spills and stains can be cleaned up quickly and easily by using ingredients you probably have lying around!

In a perfect world, you would clean up spills and stains as they happen. Simply, the longer the spill remains, the more difficult it’ll be to remove it later. When you’re trying to get food on the table, and have a mess on your kitchen counters, it isn’t always possible. If you try to at least give your backsplash a quick wipe when you notice a splatter, you’ll save yourself some time and effort in the future.

Most messes may be taken care of with warm, soapy water. Start by attacking the grease with warm water, and then use a sponge to remove the grease. Finish the job by drying the tiles with a dishtowel to get rid of any left over residue that could attract dirt.

For tougher stains, you can try either a baking soda or white vinegar spot treatment if soapy water doesn’t work. Mix equal components of warm water and baking soda and mix it into a paste. Apply the paste to the stain, and let it sit for a few minutes. Once dry, you can take it out with a soft dishcloth.

White vinegar is great for removing grease splatter and stains. Simply combine equal parts of warm water and vinegar into a spray bottle. Spray the combination onto the grease, and let it sit for around five minutes. Wipe off with a clean, damp cloth.

Whatever cleaning solution you decide on, you need to be sure that is safe for both tiles and grout. Grout tends to hold onto stains because of the textured nature of it. A great way to clean grout is by using the exact cleaning solutions previously mentioned and scrubbing it with a toothbrush because it will give you the extra flexibility and strength to get in every nook and cranny.

These are just a few cleaning suggestions that can help you keep your kitchen or bathroom tiles clean looking brand new.
